Months after China's media watchdog banned big stars who were caught using drugs and involving themselves in prostitution, a film producer required not just the actors but also the crew members to take drug tests before camera rolls to prevent risk to investors.
Film producer Zhang Junhan told Western China Metropolis Daily that millions are invested in films and that if actors participate in illegal activities, investors take all the risks.
Contracts signed by the actors stated that they must return twice the amount they are paid if they are caught to be using illegal drugs.
Stars of the ongoing comedy movie "Guys and a Kid," Liu Guanxiang and Luo Yunxi, posted online the results of their drug tests in a physical examination chart on Tuesday, claiming that it was their first time to receive such order and requirements in their whole career.
The order was implemented prior to China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television demand a year ago that stars who participate in prostitution and take illegal drugs must be banned for they do not set good examples for the youth.
According to the regulation, actors who are proved to be violating the law should not be allowed to appear in any films, shows and TV series, and that any project they have would be put on hold.
For the record, many celebrities have been caught in China's anti-drug crackdown, including the star of 2014 Golden Bear-winning film "Black Coal," Chinese actor Wang Xuebing, who was arrested in Beijing a month ago for charges on drug abuse. Also, Jaycee Chan, son of Chinese kung fu star Jackie Chan, was sentenced to six months of imprisonment in early January due to drug offences.
