In keeping with the latest trend of Sci-Fi technologies becoming real, a new drug called Flakka seemingly works like fictional drugs found in "Lucy" and even in the "Batman" Universe, giving a user near-superhuman strength as well as hallucinations and even psychosis.
Flakka looks like a cross between crystal meth and crack cocaine, according to a report by WESH. According to St. Lucie County Sherrif's Department Sgt. Rob Pettit, the drug has a distinctive odor reminiscent to that of "a sweaty sock."
Flakka is manufactured using the same type of chemical using bath salts. This extremely dangerous drug is highly addictive, psychologically and physiologically. It is also cheap -a factor which may have led to its growing popularity.
The drug can be ingested, snorted, smoked, injected or even inhaled with a vaporizer. It can cause feelings of euphoria, as well as an adrenaline rush, which makes the user extraordinarily strong, much like the way fictional drug "Venom" grants superhuman strength to the Batman villain Bane. However, this same state leads to a dangerous rise in body temperature and Hyperthermia, with a user's temperature reaching 105 degrees. Users can die if not given prompt medical care. According to a report by Forbes, the drug may also cause kidney damage and failure.
Users may also die from accidents resulting in the dangerous loss of ability to make rational decisions while on the drug. Unlike in "Lucy" this drug does not boost your brain power. Reports include users impaling themselves on fence posts while high, as well as an incident wherein the user ended up naked on a rooftop waving a gun.
