The All-China Journalists Association (ACJA) has issued the English version of a report on the development and future of journalism in China on April 7, Tuesday, according to the statement issued by the group.
The English version of the report, which was first released in Chinese at the end of 2014, is now available in full at www.zgjx.cn, which is aimed at helping the international community, especially the foreign press, to get detailed and more accurate understanding of the China press, the ACJA said in a statement.
According to the ACJA report, nearly one million people are employed by news organizations on the Chinese mainland and more than 250,000 of them are officially certified as journalists. At least 55.9 percent of them are male, the report added.
The report said that foreign journalists now find work in China easier and more rewarding as the environment for development in journalism is now more open.
The report said that the improvement of technology has contributed to the creation of the new media. In China, news are accessed through news apps that make up 80 percent of over 500 million readership, the report added.
In addition to this, more than 10,000 news items are posted each day on China's popular websites that include xinhuanet.com, sina.com.cn, sohu.com and people.com.cn.
The news posted on these websites are viewed over 100 million times every day with more than one billion page views per day, the report said.
China, however, remains a large producer of newspaper, with a total of 1,915 newspapers on the mainland and sales revenue of 44 billion yuan ($7.13 billion) in 2013.
The report said that the country's daily newspaper business has topped the world for years, and China has maintained the largest newspaper circulation in the world.
The People's Daily, the flagship newspaper of the Communist Party of China, had an average daily circulation of 3.14 million in 2013, the report added.
