According to China Internet Network Information Center (CINIC), the number of Chinese using their smartphones to surf the net increased by 56.7 million within one year, which is tantamount to 85.8 percent of the nation's online population.

Chinese smartphone users are also especially fond of game apps.

"With the expansion of fourth-generation services and the proliferation of smartphones, China had 248 million mobile online game players as of the end of last year, surging 32.9 million year-on-year," CINIC said.

Xinhua News Agency also reported last year that the mobile games industry demonstrated particularly strong growth, up by 145 percent year-over-year, amounting to 27.5 billion yuan ($4.4 billion).

According to App Annie, an industry research company, Chinese smartphone users particularly love 10 free game apps on the iOS platform. One is "Gong Bao Lao Tai Tai II," a barrage game takes the top spot.

"Meng Huan Xi You" takes on the second spot. Developed by Chinese Internet portal NetEase Corporation, the game serves as a backdrop to the one of the most popular novels on Ancient China, "Journey to the West."

This is followed by "Back to Bed." Produced by Danish Bedtime Digital Games and launched in Aug. 2014, this is a 3D indie puzzle game set.
