Pope Francis has set the new record for the price of a used iPad as it was reported that his used gadget fetched $30,500 at a recent auction.
According to Fox News, the iPad has an elaborate inscription on the back of the gadget that says "Su Santidad (His Holiness) Francisco. Servizio Internet Vaticano, March 2013" and it also has a certificate to verify that the item is indeed from the Pope.
The auction was held at the Castells auction house located in Montevideo, Uruguay and it will be helping a high school that is located 230 miles outside the said city. The tablet was given to a certain Gonzalo Aemilius in 2014 by the Pope as a gift and the pope told him to do something good with it.
Aemilius did not use the iPad for his personal gain as he donated it to the school called Francisco de Paysandu. The money gathered from the auction will be improving the high school as it is located in a very poor vicinity.
The tablet of the pope is a 4th generation model from Apple and the photos from the publication reveal that it has an outdated charge and sync connection. It comes with a black Logitech keyboard and also has a lightning connector that is no longer present in the newer models of the iPad.
According to a statement by auctioneer Juan Castels to Market Watch, the buyer is an Argentine businessman and the winning bid was via a phone call. The businessman did not want to be named as he asked to remain anonymous but Castells pointed out that the man is very famous and his line of business is well-known.
This is not the first time that the items from the Pope are auctioned as last year, a Harley Davidson motorcycle given to him as a gift fetched $327,000 while a leather jacket bearing his signature sold for $77,400.
