Shanghai Tourism Administration revealed in an interview conducted by China Daily on Wednesday that special discount tickets will be given to fortunate groups of guests on the opening of Shanghai Disney Resort in 2016.

Yang Jinsong, director of the administration, told the news site that the prices of the tickets will be based on Disney's international system, as the company is studying the market to help them decide how much and to whom the special discounts would be given.

But Disney's international conventions said that discounts were mostly enjoyed by youth, senior citizens and special groups.

Shanghai Disney Resort is built by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. It will be the first Disney park in the mainland and the second one in the Greater China region after the Hong Kong Disneyland.

Disney has a joint venture with Shanghai Shendi Group, owned by the Chinese government, which will handle 57 percent of the company share.

The construction of the 963-acre theme park in Pudong, Shanghai, started in April 2011, with an enormous budget of 24.5 billion yuan ($3.7 billion). The budget was later boosted with approximately 5 billion yuan to expand the parks and to attract 30 percent more guests. This caused the delay of the opening.

According to China Daily, eco-friendly parks and lakes are also being constructed to improve the environment.

Shanghai Disney Resort will be the sixth theme park of Disney after Los Angeles, Orlando, Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong.

The upcoming Shanghai-based Disneyland is also thrice the size of the Hong Kong Disneyland.
