Thanks to the returning season of HBO's original series "Game of Thrones" that can now be accessed with any Apple gadget or device. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) made easy money in its recent lucrative partnership with HBO for the Apple TV.

Pundits in the IT arena, however, are quite convinced that it would not be far-fetched that Apple may venture into the production and distribution of original content to grab the niche cable TV market, Seeking Alpha said.

The publication said this is not new for the company because its late founder Steve Jobs once co-owned the Pixar animation studios that was later acquired by Disney (NYSE:DIS). Pixar is known to produce original content that has now raised the bar of quality animation for Disney.

Moreover, Apple has enough cash due to its $700 billion market capitalization to invest in the acquisition of small to medium production companies that already have top-rating TV shows such as AMC, which produces "The Walking Dead" and "Breaking Bad"; or CW Television Network, which produces "Arrow" and "Vampire Diaries."

The co-founder of Reddit, Alexis Ohanian and Seth Priebatsch, creator of Level Up and SCVNGR said in Conversations with Fastcompany that it would be another mark of innovation for Apple if it tries this venture that topples down another layer in the media spectrum.

"One of the key things I want to see happen is like a major monolith like Apple, Google or even Facebook can throw in their money to disrupt the order," Priebatsch said to the publication referring to the disconnect of having two media providers, one for cable and one for mobile phone service.

Priebatsch cited the success of Netflix, a relatively small company producing "House of Cards." Apple can easily put in a $20 billion funding for a series made for television, he added.

Ohanian noted that Apple has the money and can buy a piece of Hollywood if it wants to.

According to Priebatsch, producing original content would be an additional income generating deal for Apple following the millions of dollars it made with iTunes.
