In an experiment by Carnegie Mellon University, an artificial intelligence machine faced human beings at a game of "Texas Hold 'em Poker".

Computers have been used to play the role of an opponent in the game of chess, but poker was a virgin territory for computers, till now.

This experiment began on Friday where the AI machine was made to face four poker champions in a marathon styled show down, according to NBC News. The game which was chosen was none other than "Texas Hold 'em Poker", which is considered to be one of the most popular yet complex poker games. It boasts of this reputation as it features risky gambling.

The AI program which was used is called "Claudico" and it was programmed to use an uncommon and conservative style. It was coded by its creators and it is purely based on the developers' understanding of the games, according to Omni Feed.

The developers say that the champion against who the system will be playing might feel like they are playing against an alien or a Martian, who has a deeper understanding of the game than all of them combined together.

One of the opponents seems very confident and he stated that there would be less mind games while playing against a machine. He further said that it will be nicer to play against an AI system than playing against a human because the "thinking" part could be completely taken off the table.

In one of the games "Claudico" was losing $50,000 but it definitely had the lasting power to play more, unlike the nature of human beings. The developers prepared a game of at least 80,000 hands with 1,500 games per player, over a span of two weeks.
