"Brokeback Mountain" star Jake Gyllenhaal recently appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" where he surprised talk show host Ellen DeGeneres with a never-before-heard secret: he used to be a part of a boy band!

During their conversation, DeGeneres asked Gyllenhaal how come she has never heard him sing when in fact he used to be part of a boy band when he was still a young boy.

"I haven't seen you sing before and then I found out you were in a band when you were younger."

Gyllenhaal's cheeks turned red as he revealed the name of his boy band and said, "I was in a really, really bad band when I was in high school. The name of the band was Whole Shot."

Immediately after, DeGeneres pulled out of Gyllenhaal's boy band photo from back in the day.

Talking about his short-lived music career, the "Little House of Horrors" actor revealed that he and his bandmates were responsible for writing their own music and he simply worked as the band's lyricist.

"We wrote our own music," Gyllenhaal said. "I was just a lyricist."

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old actor also revealed on "The Ellen Show" that he is currently single, and joked that he usually brings his dates to meet his mom.

Additionally, contrary to countless reports, he is not dating his "Constellations" co-star, Ruth Wilson.

"Well, one thing I always do is I always bring my dates to my mother's house for the first date. I think that's a good move," Gyllenhaal said.

Additionally, the actor revealed that his mom thinks a fixed marriage could be good for him.

"My mother believes, she thinks arranged marriages might be able to work. Ya know what I mean, like in a good way. She thinks that if she picked for me that I'd do a lot better," he said.
