On Friday, May 8, the software giant Google introduced a feature that allows people in the United States to order food directly from Google search results, according to TechnoBuffalo.
When people search for local restaurants on their phone, they will find an option called 'Place an order' below the menu option. Upon clicking it, they will be given the option to go to any of the websites of the food delivery companies who work with that restaurant so that they can place their order without any difficulty.
The company said in its post that whether people are craving pad thai or deep dish pizza, they can order food from some of their favorite restaurants directly from Google search results.
At present, Google is partnering with six food delivery services in the US, including MyPizza.com, BeyondMenu, Delivery.com, Eat24, Grubhub and Seamless. The California-based firm revealed that they will be looking to add more food-ordering services in the future.
Gary Huffman, founder of Grand Ole Creamery and Grand Pizza in St. Paul, said that third-party delivery operators are vital to his company. He further said that they feel it is a complement to their business.
This is an exciting move for the tech giant Google in the one-upmanship game going on between Amazon and Google that has seen Amazon expands its one-hour Prime Now delivery service and its Fresh grocery delivery service, while Google expands its Google Express service across the country, CNET reported. This enables Google to grow in the delivery space without investing in infrastructure.
