Asa Butterfield is now hailed as the young and new incarnation of the iconic superhero - "Spider-Man."

After months of speculation and waiting for the actor who will play the role of the next web-slinger, Marvel and Sony have announced their choice.

The 18-year old Butterfield is now set to follow the footsteps of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield  and is recognized as the first Brit to play the sought after role. He also joins the ranksfellow Brit superheroes Christian Bale and Henry Cavil who are also known as Caped Crusader and Man of Steel, respectively.

Butterfield was chosen to portray the role of the wall-crawler, since Marvel intends to feature a teenage and high-school Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The young actor is best known for his roles in Martin Scorsese's drama film "Hugo" and Gavin Hood's sci-fi film "Ender's Game."

Donald Glover was also campaigned by fans as the next "Spider-Man," but the latest news lost his chance to be the next web-slinger. According to Yahoo, the actor said that he was honored to play the iconic superhero role, and he wants the "Spider-Man" film to be "dope."

Andrew Garfield would have been announced to reprise his role as the iconic superhero in "Amazing Spider-Man 3," but the film was cancelled as the actor reportedly rebuked Sony head Kaz Hirai in an event in Rio de Janeiro in the summer last year, as per Master Herald.

The reason for Garfield's absence in the event was unspecified. However, the actor said that he was feeling "under the weather," resulting to his absence in the event.

While Butterfield has cast as the new "Spider-Man," Marvel has not announced the one who is set to helm the upcoming superhero film.

The studio is currently evaluating several filmmakers including Jared Hess, Theodeore "Ted" Melfi, "Jonathan Levine, Jonathan Goldstein, John Francis Daley, and Jason Moore, who are all qualified to direct the upcoming reboot film.

It is probable that Marvel has announced Butterfield's role as "Spider-Man" earlier than the film's director due to the superhero's debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thru "Captain America: Civil War," which has started its filming last April.

"Spider-Man: The New Avenger" is slated to premiere on July 27, 2017 while "Captain America: Civil War" is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
