Fans wasted no time to vent their sentiments on the rape scene aired on the recent episode of HBO's popular series. Some of the audience vowed to never follow the show again.

Martin claimed in his blog that his inbox has been inundated with comments that the script for the episode diverged from the writings in his book "A Dance With Dragons." He went on to say that small changes by script writers eventually lead to big ones adding that there is rarely a television series as faithful to its original adaptation as the "Game of Thrones" series.

He defended the show's creators, David Benioff, Dan Weiss, and Bryan Cogman, claimed they were merely trying to make the best possible TV series.

Cogman told Entertainment Weekly that the main protagonist, Sansa Stark, was a woman who was hardened owing due the tumultuous plot of having endured the murder of almost her whole family. She has no escape but to marry Ramsey Bolton and endure a brutal wedding night, which Cogman told the publication was a consequence of what Sansa's character had to endure.

Previous reports claimed that Martin withdrew from writing for Season 5 as he wanted to focus on writing the next installment of his book series.

Meanwhile, attempts by creators of the series to defend the episode have not swayed minds of some fans to continue their following, according to the Telegraph.

More than 7,000 voters participated in a poll by the British publication which asked viewers if the series had gone too far. The votes indicated a split, with 49 percent saying yes, and 51 percent claiming no.

In addition, feminist blog The Mary Sue boldly declared that it will no longer promote the show on their site.
