The Microsoft WiFi project was leaked by a Twitter user that uses the handle h0x0d. According to Venture Beat, this is the same person who recently leaked the Microsoft Earn project. A spokesperson from Microsoft told the publication, "We can confirm that we are working on a new service, called Microsoft Wifi, that will bring hassle-free Wi-Fi to millions. We look forward to sharing additional detail when available."

According to Mashable, Microsoft is planning to release the service in several platforms including Windows and Mac OS X. The company is also developing a standalone app for the service which will be released on Windows Phone, Android and iOS.

Microsoft WiFi will not be offered for free. Users can avail the service by subscribing to Skype WiFi.

The Microsoft WiFi service will be available for users with existing Skype WiFi account. Skype, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2011, claim to have more than 2 million hotspots in the United States through its Skype WiFi service. Users who have purchased the Work + Play or Surface 2 + WiFi bundles can also avail of the new service.

The Microsoft WiFi service will be available to users who are currently employed by companies and organizations with Microsoft Office Enterprise as well as recipients of Microsoft's free WiFi offer.

Microsoft has yet to confirm whether the new service will be integrated with on its upcoming Windows 10 operating system.
