According to Techno Buffalo, Google announced the new Android M operating software will support fingerprint scanners. In fact, Motorola has been working to integrate the technology into the Nexus 6 since last year, but the company ditched the plan due to unidentified reasons.

Aside from the rumored fingerprint scanner, the upcoming Moto X 2015 is also packed with new and upgraded hardware. It will be the first device in the Moto series to have Quad HD resolution and is rumored to use the high-end Snapdragon 810 chipset from Qualcomm. It also packs 4GB of RAM and a Type-C USB port.

According to Christian Post, the Moto X 2015 will be released in the United States in two variants depending on the smartphone's display size. The 5.2-inch display with either Quad-HD or 2K resolution will be available in most US carriers. A Verizon exclusive Moto X 2015 model is rumored to have a bigger 5.7-inch display.

In terms of storage capacity, the Moto X 2015 will be offered in two variants - 32GB and 64GB models. It is still unclear whether Motorola will add a microSD slot in order to expand the smartphone's storage capacity.

Despite rumors claiming that the Moto X 2015 will run on the Android M OS, some experts disagree and believe that the smartphone will use Motorola's own modified version of Android Lollipop integrated with the latest software and the company's own driver for a fingerprint scanner.
