Rumors claiming Jeremy Renner is gay are not new, and in a recent interview Robert Downey Jr.'s "Captain America: Civil War" co-actor neither confirmed nor denied that he is gay. This is in time with the same-sex Supreme Court ruling in the United States.

In an interview with Playboy, Renner addressed the gay rumors by saying he does not respond to questions about his personal life as a general rule. He said it is silly to prove what he is or what he is not, which he is not going to try to do.

"When you Google yourself and the first thing that comes up is 'Jeremy Renner gay,' it's like, 'Oh, now you've arrived. You're now a giant movie star,'" Renner explained. "So I just had a big laugh about it. I don't care, ultimately, if that's what people want to think, read and care about."

Emphasizing that he does not care about what people want to say about him, the "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" star said, "Look at where we're at socially, leaps and bounds ahead of where we started. That's an amazing thing. To suggest that it's negative, that being gay is a terrible thing, a perversion or whatever."

"I just don't get it," Renner asked then asked, "Don't you wish we were in a world where we're not shaming, judging and boxing people in?"

Days before the release of Renner's interview in which he addressed the gay rumors involving him, President Barack Obama commented on the Supreme Court ruling in favor of the legalizing same-sex marriage in the United States.

According to Obama, as Washington Post quoted him as saying, the Supreme Court have reaffirmed that "all Americans are entitled to the equal protection of the law" and "all people should be treated equally, regardless of who they are or who they love."
