New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford apologized to the Philadelphia Eagles, center Jason Kelce, and the team's fans following his strange comments about quarterbacks Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, and Tim Tebow in a radio interview last week.
The 32-year-old veteran said that he would not want Tebow to take snaps for his team, and then used uncanny automobile references to describe Bradford and Sanchez, implying that the former is great but not reliable while the latter is not efficient but would always be available.
Weatherford seems to be referring to Bradford's lingering injury and Sanchez's well-known inconsistencies in the position. In the case of Tebow, he may just be saying that Chip Kelly was wrong about giving him another chance.
Kelce, the man required to protect the Eagles' signal callers on the field was also quick to defend them online. The 6-foot-3, 280-pound center immediately reached Weatherford via Twitter, refuting the punter's remarks while mentioning an expletive, as per CBS Sports.
Weatherford posted a number of tweets afterward that explained his side and then finally ended up saying sorry to the Eagles, Kelce, and the fans.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound kicker then went back to a separate radio station to continue to clarify his earlier comments.
Weatherford explained that what he meant was he would take his own quarterback, Eli Manning, to take snaps for them anytime over Tebow, which he also said was quite obvious and natural, as reported by ESPN.
Meanwhile, he also said that Bradford is "incredibly talented" but he was just accounting his recent injury struggles. As for Sanchez, he praised his former Jets teammate and explained that he was just implying that he is "rock solid" and an experienced quarterback that could always start for any team.
