GoPro has released a new next generation action camera called Hero4 Session, which considered as first major redesign of the company’s ubiquitous camera since the launched of original Digital Hero in 2007.

Hero4 Session is the significant leap for GoPro because it does not need a case in order to use it in extreme outdoor activities. The camera is 50 percent smaller and 40 percent lighter when compared to the flagship Hero4 Black and Silver cameras, still maintaining the high quality performance and just weighing 2.6 ounces.

Although, its battery is irreplaceable or even swappable, the camera sports a one-button design that makes it easier to use. A short press of the shutter button is only needed to turn on the camera and it will start recording automatically. A long press is for Time Lapse photo capture and the second press will save the photo or video and turns off the device. Hero4 Session can record a video of 1080p60, 720p100 and 1440p30, and capture capturing 8MP photos in Single, Burst and Time Lapse modes. Video recording modes include SuperView, Protune and Auto Low Light, according to BGR.

Another good point of Hero4 Session is that it can be soaked in water up to 10 meters. Because it is waterproofing feature, GoPro included a new microphone system that works akin to human ears, picking up clear audio moments after leaving the water. In addition, it has rear-facing microphone, which the camera switches to when it senses high amounts of wind noise on the front microphone. It can also detect the mounting orientation, thus automatically rotates the video, TechCrunch reported.

GoPro Hero4 Session will go on sale starting July 12 from authorized retailers and GoPro.com, which costs $399.99.
