WWE and 2K have confirmed that Steve Austin will be gracing the cover of "WWE 2K16". However, some fans aren't very happy with this decision - some think a newer WWE superstar like Kevin Owens deserves a spot on the game's front cover more than Stone Cold.

Wrestling fans all know that Steve Austin is a legend. But as iconic as he is, the wrestler's shining star has come and gone and many new WWE superstars have established a name for themselves with the new generation of followers. A wrestler like Kevin Owens.

Owens is scheduled to face one of the biggest and best wrestlers in the world this weekend - John Cena. The two fighters will face off at WWE Battleground 2015 on Sunday, July 19. And if this fight is any indication, Owens is a true superstar.

"Few wrestlers have had the kind of impact Kevin Owens has since debuting on the main roster," What Culture wrote, describing the wrestler.

Since being a WWE NXT title holder, Owens has had a smooth transition to the WWE. He started a feud with John Cena after responding to the wrestler's United States Championship Open Challenge. The feud continues this weekend, with their third matchup for the title.

"Putting Owens on the cover of 2K16 would have...made a clear statement that they're finally looking to the future by capitalizing on the amazing talent who have made NXT more of a must-watch wrestling show," What Culture explained.

Putting an old name on the game cover also sends wrong signals about the WWE too, Bleacher Report noted. It seems that the network is still banking on established names to bring in viewers, than building up new stars.

"The cover of WWE 2K16 could have been used as a symbolic passing of the torch. By choosing an up-and-coming star, WWE could have educated its audience that a new era is upon us," the site wrote.
