Chevrolet is rolling-out several minor upgrades for the 2016 model of its Silverado 1500 pickup truck. The growing competition in the pickup truck market, especially from the Ford F-150, has persuaded Chevrolet to release the new updates for its flagship pickup truck.

According to Automotive News, the latest iteration of the Silverado 1500 will ditch the ubiquitous dual-unit headlights to make room for a smaller more conventional headlight equipped with the latest technology. Additionally, the 2016 Silverado 1500's new headlight design gives the pickup truck a more athletic façade.

The Z71 trim of the 2016 Silverado 1500 will sport two rows of LED lights separated by a bar stretched across the whole width of the grille. The pickup will also feature in its redesigned lower fascia a smaller vertical fog light.

In terms of tech upgrades, Chevrolet is updating the Chevy MyLink infotainment system and adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The 2016 Silverado 1500 will also receive some new safety features.

Chevrolet will not make any changes on the 2016 Silverado 1500's engines. This means that the base model of the truck will still have the 4.3-liter V6 engine capable of 285 horsepower output and the mid-range model will still keep its 5.3-liter V8 engines with a 420 horsepower output.

In a statement, Chevrolet marketing director Sandor Piszar said, "The redesigned 2016 Silverado will build on Chevy trucks' legacy of dependability."

Piszar added that the new designs integrated to the 2016 Silverado 1500 is reminiscent of the same design philosophy that has helped put the Silverado on top the full-sized pick market.
