An influx of winter sport facilities are expected to arrive in China as a ten-year contract with Switzerland's Verbier Ski Resort was recently signed.

According to Eric Balet, the ski resort's general manager, "long-term development is something that absolutely deserves [their] long-term attention." Reports have surfaced that a 20-year development plan is under appraisal.

The plan covers on-site training for ski professionals, and aid in operating and designing ski lifts.

Balet's statement came during a press conference held on July 14, when he answered queries about the expansion of skiing facilities to Zhangjiakou and Yanqing, as well as questions about China's potential as a ski destination.

Balet was joined by cable car expert Paul Glassey and Paul-Voctor Amaudruz, a trail specialist.

On the event, the Swiss ski resort general manager also lauded the favorable ecological and agricultural conditions of the Chinese capital, stating that the area is ideal for creating artificial snow. These factors, according to Balet, are some of the biggest hurdles a nation planning to welcome winter sports may face.

Balet has pointed out the significance of creating artificial snow, despite the sound environmental conditions a city has. "This is a point people often miss when analyzing winter sport venues," he emphasized.

Asked about China's winter sport culture, Balet stated the importance of gaining participation from the youth, suggesting that more ski and snowboarding learning institutions and clubs must be established.

The entry of winter sport facilities has been expected by experts, regardless of the outcome of Beijing's bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics Game.
