The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7, the latest tablet from Samsung comes with attractive design and features. It has been built to pit against the iPad Air 2.
The iPad Air 2 from September 2014 has a new and powerful competitor from Samsung, the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7. Sporting the screen size as the iPad Air 2, the Samsung tablet is being referred as an iPad killer. Design And Display
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 measures 237 x 169 x 5.6 mm whereas the Apple iPad Mini 3 measures 240 x 170 x 6.1 mm.
The Wi-Fi only variant of the Samsung slate is 389 grams and its W-Fi and LTE model weighs 392 grams. Its chassis is made up of plastic and if features an aluminum frame. It is available in white and black colors.
The iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi only variants weigh 437 grams and the Wi-Fi and LTE model. The chassis is completely made of aluminum. It comes in color options like silver, gold and space gray.
Both the tablets feature a 9.7-inch display with support for 2048 x 1536 pixels. The Galaxy Tab S2 houses a Super AMOLED type of display whereas the iPad Air 2 features an IPS display. Both the devices are fitted with a fingerprint recognition system under their respective Home button.
Processor, RAM And Storage
Powered by Exynos 5433 chipset, the Galaxy Tab S2 features a 64-bit octa-core processor comprising of quad cores of Cortex A57 running at 1.9 GHz and quad cores of Cortex A53 processing at 1.3 GHz. The chipset is coupled with 3 GB of RAM.
The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 is available in two storage variants such as 32 GB and 64 GB. The expandable storage supports up to 128 GB of microSD.
The iPad Air 2 is powered by A8X chip that includes a triple core 64-bit processor that produces a clocking speed of 1.5 GHz. It comes with 2 GB of RAM. The Apple product lacks a microSD slot. However, it is available in internal storage variants like 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB.
Camera And Software
There is an 8 MP rear camera and a 2.1 MP front-facing camera on the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7. On the other side, the iPad Air 2 also features a 8 MP rear camera but the frontal camera is of 1.2 MP.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop OS is overlaid with TouchWiz UI from Samsung on the Galaxy Tab S2. The iPad Air 2 features the iOS 8 operating system.
Battery And Price
The battery present inside the Galaxy Tab S2 is of 5,870 mAh. The iPad Air 2 houses a larger battery of 7,340 mAh capacity.
The price of the Galaxy Tab S2 ranges from euro 499 ($540) for the Wi-Fi only model to euro 540 ($616) for the Wi-Fi and LTE model, Sam Mobile reported. However, it does not clearly mention the pricing for the 32 GB and 64 GB models.
The iPad Air 2 pricing begins at $499 for the Wi-Fi only 16 GB model. Its Wi-Fi and LTE model is priced with 128 GB storage is priced at $829.
