Microsoft has just launched the new standalone app Send, which can be used now in the United States and Canada. The chat-like email app is only available for the iPhone smartphone and its iOS platform, but will hit the market soon for Android and Windows Phone mobile devices.

Rumors of the new Microsoft application started circulating last May. However, at that time the name was leaked as an email app called Flow.

Microsoft has no wish to replace the Outlook email app. Instead, Send was created for situations in which users just have to zip off a short-and-sweet message to coworkers.

Both subject lines and signatures are out the window, according to Venture Beat. Even salutations are unnecessary since the main function of the new mobile app is to share key details or ask short questions, such as where a meeting will be taking place.

In addition, users cannot view emails that they have received in the past, or search their inboxes' content, according to Mashable. It is designed for short day-to-day messages.

The application's form resembles text messages. However, it is based on e-mail addresses in a user's Outlook account, instead of onsmartphone numbers.

Send users can only view messages sent via the app. However, in Outlook both services' messages can be read.

The new Microsoft app is only available through Office 365 email accounts for businesses and schools. However, Android and Windows Phone versions are in the works.

Send is aMicrosoft Garage project. While it might not become an official product of the operating system king, it could certainly become a staple in workplaces centered on mobile phones.
