The 2016 Volkswagen model will run on a combination of MirrorLink, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in its new infotainment systems just like most of the other 2016 car models.

According to the US Media Newsroom, Volkswagen's MIB II second-generation model infotainment system will incorporate three smartphone-car interfaces for all 2016 prototypes and slim suites. The only exception to these features is the Volkswagen 2016 Touareg and Eos, but floor models of the rest of the 2016 cars from the company having the systems installed will arrive soon in showrooms.

Apart from the three smartphone applications, Volkswagen said that its MIB II platform has enhanced-resolution displays, faster processing speeds, and improved graphics as compared to the precursor, MIB I introduced in 2015 Volkswagen Golf models. The MIB II platform has a 400-by-240 pixel resistive screen at the lower end that is 5-inch, and 800-by-480-pixel capacitive touch display varying from 6.3 to 8 inches.

Since resistive displays are cheaper but less responsive than capacitive displays, the company advises drivers to go for the MIB II capacitive display units, Macworld reported. With the MIB II capacitive touchscreen units, the driver can pinch-to-zoom and utilize other multi-finger signals, in the same way they would when using smartphones or tablets.

From the two platforms of MIB II, the company is allowing the user to have the best experience when connecting a phone to the car, covering all main platforms. Volkswagen was the first car manufacturer to announce support for MirrorLink in addition to being the best-suited Android and apple CarPlay platforms.

The list of car models supporting the three applications continues to grow, indicating that 2016 will be a year for safe driving options to gain significance.
