"The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec recently talked about the upcoming season of the hit the CW series. Meanwhile, she also spoke about the future of Alaric after his wife and unborn child passed away in season 6.

In an interview with Zap2It, Plec revealed that she spoke with Matthew Davis before they filmed the finale episode last season. She told him that his character will suffer greatly and he was actually up for the challenge.

Plec also shared the kind of relationship she has with Davis. According to her, Davis is one of her good friends and she really wants to push him to become a better actor.

In season 7, Alaric will continue to struggle with his life and at one point, he might even become an alcoholic. The character will also explore another side of himself wherein he will become interested in magic, witchcraft and the like.

Towards the end of season 7, Alaric will come to terms with the death of his loved ones and he will pick himself up once again.

Meanwhile, Nina Dobrev's character Elena Gilbert will no longer be part of "The Vampire Dairies" season 7. However, her exit only meant that the show creators will introduce a new set of characters.

According to Entertainment Weekly, "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will include "Powers" actor Justice Leak, who will play the role of Malcolm, "Zoo" star Jaiden Kaine and "The Mentalist" star Tim Kang, who will play the role of Oscar.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will premiere on The CW in the fall.
