A fantasy comic piece, which drew inspiration from Chinese poets of the Tang Dynasty, was hailed as the 6th Golden Comic Award's biggest winner.

During the ceremony held in Taipei, Taiwanese comic artist Yeh Ming-hsuan's "The Lord of Master - Li Bai 2" grabbed the Best Comic Grand Prize and the Best Young Male Comic Award.

The award-winning comic book is part of Yeh's second comic series. It revolves around the lives of popular Tang poets, such as Wang Wei, Li Bai and Du Fu.

Yeh told the media that the comic book is a combination of history, magic and his own creative imaginations.

"After completing my last series, I wanted to create something with a distinct Chinese style," Yeh said, admitting that he is a fan of Li Bai's works, that is why he made something that will introduce the poet's works to his readers.

Yeh also shared that the most challenging part of the comic book is the smooth insertion of the poems to the stories.

Meanwhile, the Japanese edition of his comic book has already hit Japanese stores on Tuesday.

For this milestone, Yeh remarked: "It's a dream come true for me. I have read Japanese comic books since I was a child, and now my comic books will be read by the Japanese."

The annual comic awards is organized by the Ministry of Culture. This year's competition received a total of 102 works and 24 nominations.

Other winners include Chien Chen-chieh (Best New Comic Artist), Juan Kuang-min's "Heaven Restaurant 2 & 3" (Best General Comic Award), Chou Hsien-tsung's "Yu Ling Xian (Best Children's Comic Award), and Cory's Make A Wish! DAXI 5 (Best Young Female Comic Award).

Michael Huang, founder of Sharp Point Publishing Group, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his efforts to find and hone fresh talents and promote Taiwanese comic art.
