Just days after releasing its first major patch for the Windows 10 operating system, Microsoft received a barrage of complaint from its user base claiming that the patch causes their computer system to be stuck in an endless reboot loop.
Microsoft released the KB3081424 update on Aug. 5. The update is composed of smaller patches that aims to fix and offer new users a simpler and easier way to update their systems.
However, many users complained that after reaching a certain point on the installation process, the update fails and rolls back from the start causing them to be stuck in a loop.
A user on the Microsoft forum using the handle BrettDM posted, "It downloads, reboot to install. Gets to 30%. Gets to 59% and reboots. Gets to 59% again and then states something went wrong so uninstalling the update." The user added that the problems occurs every single time, without exception.
KB3081424 is a mandatory update, which means that users do not have the option to decline installing the update. Due to massive number of computers running on the Windows 10 platform, it will take Microsoft quite some to time accurately point out what causes the problem, according to The Guardian.
Microsoft has yet to release an update to fix the crash-loop problem. On the other hand, users from Microsoft's forum have found a workaround to fix the issue using the Windows Registry.
Some users managed to correctly install the update by tweaking their computer systems. This involves manually editing the Registry, which if done incorrectly can cause irreparable damage.
