The popular "Game of Thrones" series is expected to have eight seasons and the sixth season of the show is expected to air in April 2016. In an interview to Observer, he said, "I've said before that the tone of the ending that I'm going for is bittersweet."

Martin is inspired by the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and its ending. He said, "It ends with victory, but it's a bittersweet victory. Frodo is never whole again, and he goes away to the Undying Lands, and the other people live their lives."

The author has cleared out his schedule and canceled a number of public appearances in order to focus on the much-delayed "The Winds of Winter" book. He wants to release it before the sixth season of the "Game of Thrones" starts airing on television.

Recently, there were a number of rumors that the book was finished as Martin was spotted at a public event. It was also speculated that the book is now being printed and may see a release date before the end of the year.

However, Martin shot down all such rumors and said that he is tired of people asking him when the book is going to be released.
