It seems like the much awaited “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 12 will have a real focus Alex (Justin Chambers) and Jo (Camilla Luddington) relationship, as fans will get to know more about the couple.

“We had a lot of stories we wanted to tell with them last season, and I promised the fans, ‘We’re going to tell all these Alex and Jo stories… ,’” series creator Shonda Rhimes told TVLine.

“And then we had to take a left turn because Patrick was leaving. And now we want to tell a lot of those stories — except in a lighter way. So there’s a real focus on them this season,” Rhimes added.

According to Rhimes, fans do not really known Alex or Jo as a couple or even as individuals and that it is time to know more about them. The upcoming season will pick up three months after the season 11 finale events as she feels Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) needs time to have passed to be in a place where she could at least have a conversation.

While there is not yet any clear information on if Meredith will find a new love interest in this season or not, Rhimes has confirmed that the new series regular Martin Henderson, pegged to replace McDreamy or Derek (Patrick Dempsey), will not be making his debut until the middle of the season.

In other news, Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) will both have new love interests, with Callie’s bisexuality being further explored.

The new “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 12, all set to premiere on Sep 24, will be a lighter season with everyone to experience a “redefinition and renaissance,” Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter.
