Aug. 23 is GoTopless Day! Women in 60 cities around the world walked out of their homes topless to celebrate women empowerment. These ladies believe that like men, women should be allowed to bare their breasts in public.

Some women marched with flags while others wrote freedom expressions on their bodies to signify their protest, Metro reported.

Actress and model Rachel Jessee led the GoTopless group in New York, United States of America. "Our goal is for equal gender topless rights to be enforced worldwide, freeing women's nipples," said Jesse.

The group's topless parade, which took place in Manhattan, stirred controversy. The town's mayor had started banning topless women in Town Square weeks before the protest.

"It's wrong," said Mayor Bill de Blasio.

The "burn the witches" statement only prompted women to be more aggressive in reminding the mayor that women have been allowed to go topless in New York for 23 years.

Meanwhile, women in other parts of the world also staged their own celebrations. In Edinburgh, Scotland, approximately 50 ladies took off their tops on a two-hour sit-in protest at the Royal Mile. In support of the cause, some men joined the celebration. In Washington, DC, USA, one woman stood topless in front of the White House, posing as the Statue of Liberty.

Unfortunately, some ladies were distracted by a number of men who failed to understand that the cause of the celebration is to de-sexualized women's breast. During the topless parade, some men went to the area to take photos, a manifestation of rape culture.

The celebration is the 8th annual go topless day. Women groups wishing to be one with the campaign in their localities may register at Go Topless
