Thousands of fans of the "Divergent" series are urging book author Veronica Roth to pen an alternate ending for "Allegiant."

In the book, as well as the upcoming movie, Shailene Woodley's Tris will be killed off after saving the rest of her people.

Throughout the past couple of weeks, fans have been petitioning for Roth to not kill off Tris, but the author has been very firm with her decision to do so.

In an interview with MTV News, Roth said that she decided to stick with the same ending because it was necessary for Tris' journey. Roth added that in "Divergent" and "Insurgent," Tris was very close to meeting her demise, but she survived it because her mission was not over yet.

Unfortunately, Tris will still be killed off in "Allegiant" so the character's romantic relationship with Four will eventually end as well.

Meanwhile, Woodley has been very open to the idea of her character Tris dying in the trilogy. In fact, the actress has been very supportive of Roth's decision to stick to the original ending from the book.

Fans would be pleased enough to know that an alternate ending is possible for the upcoming DVD release of Roth's trilogy. However, nothing has been confirmed yet by Roth or Lionsgate, according to Design N Trend.

"Allegiant - Part 1" will continue to feature Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Zoe Kravitz, Octavia Spencer and more. The film will be released in theaters in the United States on Mar. 18, 2016.
