The highly anticipated “Final Fantasy VII remake,” which is still in the early stages of development, has its battle system under going trail and error experimentation.

“We’re starting to see the visual direction. On the other hand, we’re currently working out the battle system and such through trial-and-error,” Producer Yoshinori Kitase told Famitsu, as reported by Gematsu. “Since there’s a possibility that the command battle system of the old days might not work today, we’re thinking hard about what kind of direction we can take it.”

The developers are likely looking bringing about something new that will surprise the players, while maintaining the familiarity of the classic game. Though there is no information about how far the game is into the development, it is pretty clear that Square Enix started the production of “Final Fantasy 7 remake” before the end of 2014.

The developer has been sharing information on the title, late last month, the director Tetsuya Nomura revealed in an interview that the upcoming title will have dramatic changes to the combat system, but still be recognizable, GamesRadar reported.

Earlier this month, at the Gamescon 2015, Square Enix revealed that the “Final Fantasy VII remake” will not be using the Luminous engine used in Final Fantasy XV, which is set for release next year. However, the developer stopped short of revealing on what engine the game will be running.

As of now, the much awaited “Final Fantasy 7 remake” release is expected to happen by early 2017, to coincide with the #20 anniversary of the original classic game, which was launched in January, 1997.

Nevertheless, Square Enix is yet to officially announce the release date for the upcoming title.
