When the "Fifty Shades Darker" trailer was released in May, fans of the E.L. James erotic novel had mixed feelings about the sequel. With the box office success of "Fifty Shades of Grey," some were worried that the second installment may not live up to its hype.

It has long been rumored that the highly anticipated sequel will be much more "darker" than its predecessor. Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey) and Dakota Johnson (Anastasia Steele) even went far as saying that it would be a thriller movie.

With this, some fans are starting to wonder what made the producers change the movie's tone from sexy to suspense. Movie Pilot speculated that they hype in "Fifty Shades of Grey" trilogy has already died down and that the studio is desperate to come up with a fresh take on the novel.

The publication noted that some of the moviegoers of the first film were perhaps just curious as to how the erotic film was given the go-signal given its mature, bordering soft porn content. Although the movie earned mixed response, with critics consistently giving negative reviews, it earned a whopping $569 million in worldwide box office.

Multiple reports suggest that "Fifty Shades Darker" would have the same faith as its predecessor.

In other news, Entertainment Weekly reported that "House of Cards" director James Foley is in talks to direct the sequel, following Sam Taylor-Johnson's exit. It may have been more than eight years since Foley directed a film but the executives believed that he is the right fit for the project.
