Apple is staging a big event on September 9 that likely will reveal the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus then the actual release date is expected to follow on or before September 18. The anticipation is building up as tons of rumors swirl around.

With so much information going around, how to know what is real and what is not about the next iPhone? Here are things we know so far - some already confirmed but a few remains iffy:

5 iPhones to choose from

It's near sure that by late September Apple will be selling five iPhone variants that should include the newest models - the iPhone 6S and the 6S Plus. All indication say the latest will be of the same sizes as their predecessors, sporting 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screen profiles respectively.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus of last year will remain key attractions as they will be subject for price mark downs, likely by up to $100.

But the cheapest variant will be the iPhone 4-inch 5S, which will be taking the role as Apple's legacy and budget handset.

Another 4-inch offering

Apart from the 5S, BGR is saying in a report that the chance is high that a 4-inch sibling is in the offing. It will be called iPhone 6C and should be on store shelves in time for the 2015 holiday season.

16GB basic model

It appears too that 16GB will remain as the basic storage configuration of the new iPhone. As hinted by the retail packaging obtained by NowhereElse.fr, 32GB will not be the starting model of the iPhone 6S.

Rose gold iPhone

Apple is adding another color option to the iPhone in the form of rose gold, which was described by 9to5Mac as a version of pink. But like the champagne gold of last year, no real gold will be included to the next iPhone.

No sapphire glass

The iPhone 6 was rumored to be scratch- and dent-free for the life of the device as Apple was said to use sapphire glass to protect the device's front, back and side surfaces. It did not materialize and will remain so this 2015.

According to 9to5Mac, instead of sapphire Apple will use Ion-X glass coating on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.

Force Touch

While sapphire remains out, Force Touch is definitely in. The new screen sensor, already in Apple Watch, is said to redefine touchscreen smartphone experience that will add new texture to productivity and gaming features.

iOS 9

Bannering the next iPhone power specs is the next-generation A9 processing chip but really defining the iPhone 6S killer features is iOS 9 that is mainly designed for a more secured and stable mobile device performance.
