The undead universe spawned by the hit series The Walking Dead could be expanding further following the recent television debut of the prequel Fear the Walking Dead. More back stories of humans trying to survive in a world overran by zombies can be expected soon.

Tough Daryl Dixon might be the subject of a separate story that will trace back his exploits prior to crossing path to the group now headed by Rick Grimes. The spinoff will of course include another Dixon, the now dead Merle, killed and turned a walker a few seasons back.

The likelihood of digging deeper into the enigmatic history of the Dixon siblings actually excites Norman Reedus, who portrays Daryl. Reedus anticipates that teaming up anew with Merle would be "super fun," according to a report by Comic Book.

Arguably one of the more popular Walking Dead characters, the MacGyver-like Daryl offers rich texture and dimension that fans would love to know about. Per Comic Book, there was a plan for a separate narrative of Daryl and Carol pursuing lives outside of Grimes' group but never materialized.

Carol, being essayed by Melissa McBride, is Daryl's perennial partner but minus the romantic flavor and two together is a rich source of interesting angles that Walking Dead fans would want to poke into.

Yet the Daryl-Carol story resides in the can for now. The discussion is more focused now on the Dixon brother and according to veteran actor Michael Rooker, their family tale getting unearthed for the world to see remains an idea at the moment.

Nothing definite is on the discussion table but Rooker may just be part of The Walking Dead Season 6, likely in flashback treatments. As fans wait for the Daryl-Merle spinoff, Comic Book said that Rooker was spotted on set, triggering speculations that Merle's ghost might be haunting Daryl and Rick and the rest of the Season 6 company soon.

Apart from Merle intruding anew into Rick's consciousness, a number of characters from Fear the Walking Dead may just spill over to the original show. Per The Huffington Post, Fear star Dave Erickson dropped clues that in time for Season 2 of the young show crossover may just happen. It is unclear, however, if the overlap will happen from The Walking Dead to Fear or vice versa.

Setting the precedent for such crossover is an upcoming stand-alone online episode that AMC said will showcase a zombie mid-air attack, depicted before in the Brad Pitt-headlined zombie apocalypse film World War Z. A lone survivor from this episode will eventually join the Fear the Walking Dead Season 2, HuffPost said on its report.

Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon will again lead their group as The Walking Dead Season 6 starts airing October 11 on AMC.
