JJ Abrams said that that it was "incredible" that 73-year-old actor Harrison Ford for stepping back into the role of Han Solo after 40 years. 

"I knew for a fact, for example, that Harrison Ford was going to be in this movie, but I couldn't be certain that Han Solo would be. Meaning, I hadn't seen Han Solo return after nearly 40 years, either. It was a remarkable thing to see how effortlessly Harrison Ford became Han Solo again," he said to New Zealand Herald.

He added that along with Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher played their characters effortlessly. Hamill has reprised his role as Luke Skywalker and Fisher as Leia Organa.

Abrams even spoke about the production process of the film. He said that they have tried to shoot maximum things on the camera. The CGI tools have been coupled with realistic sets and the film reportedly has authentic feel. According to the director, the actor got to shoot in an "actual location" and it was not created using digital methods.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has been set more than 30 years after the "Return of the Jedi." It features new characters including a stromtropper Finn, a Scavenger Rey and a resistance X-Wing pilot Poe Doremon, Screen Rant reported.

The plot details of the film are being kept under the wraps. Abrams has co-written the screenplay of the film with Lawrence Kasdan. The other star cast consists of Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow, with Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens on Dec.18.
