The new movie is an aftermath of the previous film, 'The Last: Naruto the Movie" that saw the family life of Naruto being unveiled by Masashi Kishimoto. As the Seventh Hokage, Naruto has been preoccupied with the idea of being a hero at the expense of his family. As a result, his son, Boruto has grown resentful and began training his ninja skills in order to surpass his father.

There are rumors that Lionsgate is negotiating for the production of a live movie of "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" anime. However, there is no confirmation as to whether the live-action will be based on the film or it will take a different plot.

In the new film, the presence of a new character is evident. However, some rumors indicate that the new character, Mitsuki, might be a related to Orochimaru. Where the new character originates still remains a mystery as well as her role is indefinite.

Much demand for the anime movie has led to the latest franchise of "Naruto" to earn $16.8 million (2.02 billion yen) as of Aug. 25. This is the highest rating in the history of the "Naruto" franchise. In fact, the new film surpassed the previous December 2014 movie, "The Last: Naruto the Movie" by 115.1 percent on its premiere date, Anime News Network reported.
