German automobile manufacturer recently announced that it is joining the electric car market. The luxury car maker also unveil its first all-electric Mission E sports vehicle that might challenge the current market leader Tesla Motors Inc.

According to Market Watch, the Mission E is reminiscent of the iconic Porsche 911. The electric car has an 800-volt electric powertrain and boasts a 600-horsepower output which enables it to accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per second in just 3.5 seconds.

In an interview during the Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche chief executive officer Matthias Muller told the press, "When we designed this car, we knew it had to be a real Porsche. It had to feel like a 911."

The Mission E is a four-door sports car that is designed for everyday use. Porsche currently has a prototype that can travel up to 500 kilometers on just a single full charge. Porsche also claims that the battery has quick charge capabilities and can be recharged to around 80 percent in just 15 minutes.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the electric car also has an impressive set of electronic features. Among these features is the eye-tracking system which is capable of sensing which part of the dashboard the drive is looking at.

Despite its impressive early specs, Porsche is still on the process of deliberation and will announce later this year whether or not the car will go on production.  If Porsche decides to build the car, experts estimate that it will hit the market in 2019.
