"Life" is a 2015 biographical drama film based on the friendship of Life photographer Dennis Stock and Hollywood actor James Dean.


The film stars Robert Pattinson as Stock and Dane DeHaan as Dean. The plot revolves around Stock, who works at the Magnum Photos Agency and got a job to shoot budding film star Dean for "Life Magazine," before the release of "East of Eden."

A steady friendship developed between them during the project, as the duo take a trip from Los Angeles to New York to Indiana.

The film is directed by Anton Corbijn and written by Luke Davies received mixed to upbeat reviews from the critics, but Pattinson and DeHaan received positive reception for their rendering of Stock and Dean.

Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 55% rating based on reviews from 11 critics, with an average score of 5.8/10. Metacritic gave the film a score of 62 based on reviews from 4 critics.

While David Rooney of the Hollywood Reporter criticized the film, however, he praised Pattinson's performance.

Guy Lodge of Variety  evaluated the film positively and appreciated performances by Pattinson and DeHaan. 

It is an American, British, German, Canadian and Australian co-production, produced by Iain Canning and Emile Sherman from See-Saw Films and Christina Piovesan from First Generation Films with co-financed by Barry Films Production.

Released by the Transmission the movie is rated MA15+for strong sex scenes, sexual themes and nudity. The running time of the film is of 111 minutes.

The film had its premiere at 65th Berlin International Film Festival, at Berlinale Special Gala at the Zoo Palast on Feb. 9. The film is set for a theatrical release in the United States on Dec. 4.
