Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi space film "The Martian" has just had a special screening, in space.

Astronauts Kjell Lindgren and Scott Kelly tweeted a post on their official Twitter accounts. In their tweets, Lindgren and Kelly expressed their delight on seeing the cinematic screening of Scott's "The Martian" not in theaters, but in space. This was made possible as 20th Century Fox requested people at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to screen the film at the International Space Station.

While some astronauts or the people in NASA could be sidetracked by the disaster in the film's premise, Scott's "The Martian" has successfully integrated scientific principles in its entirety, as per Cinema Blend. The film also encompasses significant themes, such as creativity, seclusion, and subsistence, along with a prodigious and radical space epic.

Scott's "The Martian" is assumed as the filmmaker's most successful film in years, acquiring a 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It could be a remarkable year for Scott, his team, and the film itself, as "The Martian" may build its name in the realm of entertainment, not to mention that the Oscars have never given a science-fiction title with the Best Picture accolade.

"The Martian" follows the astronaut Mark Watney as he gets stranded on Mars following a windstorm. The incident prompts the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) team to make a move to save Watney. The film stars Michael Peña, Sebastian Stan, Donald Glover, Mackenzie Davis, Sean Bean, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain, and Matt Damon as Watney.

Along with Scott directing the film, Goddard is on board to pen the script of the film. Simon Kinberg, Aditya Sood, Mark Huffam, and Michael Schaefer are set to co-produce the film.

Directed by Scott, "The Martian" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Oct. 2, 2015. Watch the trailer here:
