Formlabs unveiled its Form 2 3D printer which is bigger, simpler and much better compared to its predecessor.

In 2012, the company broke a Kickstarter record after amassing $3 million in funds in order to create an easy-to-use 3D printer aimed for the mainstream crowd.

According to The Verge, 3D printers developed by Formlabs works differently compared to other printers in the marker. Most 3D printers build objects by constantly applying small amounts of plastic layer by layer until it is fully formed.

On the other hand, Formlabs printers follow a process called stereo lithography, which uses a laser which is shone on a piece of liquid photopolymer or resin and then slowly curing it to form an object.

Many experts praised Formlabs innovative take into the 3D printer market. Moreover, Formlabs 3D printers are not cheap, which is a testament for its quality. According to Mashable, the recently announced Form 2 has a price tag of $3,499. Despite this hefty price, Formlabs promises that the new 3D printer offers significant performance improvements and upgrades. The laser on the new printer is 5- percent more powerful compared to the one installed in its direct predecessor, the Form 1+.

The new Form 2 can print objects 40 percent bigger than the capacity of the Form 1+. The Form 2 can also use cartridges in order to refill the printer's 3D tank even if the device is printing. Other specs of the Form 2 include Wi-Fi connectivity, 8GB internal memory, one-click printing feature and an improved touchscreen display.
