The documentary is split into two episodes. The first one presents aerial shots of China's famous landmarks and traditional events, which include the Shaolin Kung Fu in Songshan, Henan Province.

The second part of the film tackles current issues faced by the modern Chinese society, including the environmental problems brought forth by fossil fuel energy consumption.

According to the China International Communication Center, one of the film's major investors, "China From Above" is an epic journey that offers the audience worldwide a chance to know the secrets and patterns of life in both traditional and modern China.

"How have the traditions of this centuries-old civilization shaped its landscape and people, and how do they hold up in the present day? To capture its scale and complexity we embark on an epic aerial journey across China's varied landscapes and cultures to uncover how these practices and icons endure," Wang Yuanyuan, a producer at the center, remarked.

"From monumental engineering feats of the Great Wall to a massive water splashing festival in the tropical South, we unveil the secrets and patterns of China's living past in a fresh new perspective," Wang added.

Moreover, the producer shared that the film will take the viewers to China's ancient monuments and customs, and landscapes and megacities. It will also show how the world's most populous nation has made its impact on the planet.

"China From Above" was produced by the State Council's Information Office. It was jointly created by the China International Communication Center, the BeachHouse, Natural History New Zealand Limited, and the National Geographic Channel.
