Tom Hardy could play a younger version of the adamantium-clawed mutant Wolverine, rumors say.
Twitter user BossLogic tweeted a photo on his official Twitter account on Sept. 25. The image shows a Hardy sporting Wolverine's suit, along with his adamantium claws and cigarette. With his caption saying "A little more effort on this one for the fans - Tom Hardy as #Wolverine for @RealHughJackman #newWolverine," the photo got more than 800 favorites and more than 700 retweets.
According to Cinema Blend, the image was superb and suggestive of Hardy's capability to display a "badass" Wolverine. The publication also mentioned that with Hardy's roles as Bane in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" and Max Rockatansky in George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road," the actor will be able to portray the role of the iconic mutant.
Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" initially planned to recast the Wolverine character, as per Screen Rant. The film was originally set to have two parts, with a younger Wolverine in part one and Jackman as the older Wolverine in part two.
The time-travel element in Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" allowed Marvel Studios' teams to introduce younger incarnations of characters in its Cinematic Universe. Just like new comers Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Scott Summers/Cyclops, and Alexandra Shipp as Ororo Munroe/Storm, Hardy could be introduced as a younger version of Logan/Wolverine.
Aside from Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" and Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road," Hardy is also known for his roles in Nolan's action mystery film "Inception" and Gavin O'Connor's sports drama "Warrior." The actor is set to appear in Miller's sequel "Mad Max: The Wasteland," Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's adventure drama "The Revenant" and the drama television series "Taboo."
Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman holds the title for Wolverine. Jackman has played the role in a number of "X-Men" films and he is set to reprise his mutant role in Singer's forthcoming Marvel Comics film "X-Men: Apocalypse." The actor also teased previously that he will be seen as Wolverine for the last time in James Mangold's untitled "Wolverine" sequel.
Fans will see Wolverine in Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse," which is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on May 27, 2016, and in Mangold's "Wolverine" sequel, which hits theaters on Mar. 3, 2017.
