President Xi Jinping left for Beijing on Monday, Sept. 28, concluding his first state visit to the United States and first appearance at the U.N. headquarters, which yielded fruitful results, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
Xi landed in Seattle, in the U.S. West Coast, on Sept. 22, and attended a China-U.S. governors forum where he delivered a speech on China-U.S. relations at a dinner hosted by local governments and other organizations.
In his speech, the Chinese leader called on the two countries to advance the new model of relationship between China and the United States, suggesting that they must promote win-win cooperation, manage their differences, and nurture a friendly relation between the two peoples.
He also talked to entrepreneurs of both countries and visited a Boeing factory as well as the Microsoft headquarters and a local high school.
Xi's state visit culminated in Washington, where he had a three-hour-long informal meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama on Sept. 24.
Obama welcomed Xi with full state honor and arrival ceremony at the south lawn of the White House, including a 21-gun salute. A formal talk between Xi and Obama was held later, followed by a press conference and a state dinner, on Sept. 25.
The Chinese president also presented Obama with a six-point proposal for the development of China-U.S. relations, which he described to the press as "fruitful and constructive."
He attended a welcoming luncheon hosted by Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry and met leaders of the U.S. Congress.
According to the report, Xi's visit yielded positive results since the two leaders issued a joint presidential statement on climate change alongside a 49-item outcome list.
On Sept. 26, Xi arrived in New York for a series of United Nations summits and conferences upon the 70th anniversary of the founding of the world body. He addressed the U.N. General Assembly, the U.N. Sustainable Development Summit, a women's affairs summit and a peacekeeping summit. He also presided over a South-South cooperation roundtable co-organized by China and the United Nations, and attended a leader's luncheon on climate change.
While in New York, Xi also met with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
