Samsung Galaxy S3 under major U.S. carriers are still using Android 4.0 KitKat like Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular and AT&T. Many believe that the phone will encounter no technical issue once it gets its update.  Older and lower models have been updated and everything went smoothly.

Samsung Galaxy S3 will be skipping the other version of Android 5 and will jump directly to Android 5.1.1.  Some phone had similar version jumps and did not have any problems as well. This is also in preparation for the upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Android Pit reported.

Samsung mid-range model lineup has been upgraded long before, which made several consumers to speak up through community forums about the long delay in an update. The mid-range models include Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy Grand Prime, Galaxy Core Prime, Galaxy Mega 2, Galaxy J1, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy Note 4.

Samsung Galaxy S3 users who are jumping from KitKat to Lollipop will experience great improvements with the current Android version. This includes better animations, notification options, device sharing, syncing and Material Design. It is also worth noting that several security updates were added since Android 4.2.2.
