A data miner spotted what appear to be three new character slots in "Super Smash Bros. 4." These reportedly came from the latest patch 1.1.1, which just recently landed on the Nintendo 3Ds and Wii U.

A total of seven slots were empty in the latest files. These are specified further, wherein three of these are reportedly character slots, while four are stage slots, Nintendo Life reported.

The same data miner who spotted the new slots had actually been successful before. He was responsible for revealing Roy and Ryu, though Nintendo has, since then, changed the way data is filed in the patch. For now, the only confirmation is that there will be more DLC characters, though this has been previously announced by Nintendo. Some of the character slots may be filled by the Fighter Ballot winner, though Nintendo has yet to confirm this.

The 1.1.1 patch update introduced the ability to buy new DLC for both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions. It brought in some Mii Fighter costumes, including business suit, Star Fox, F-Zero, Super Mario, Kid Icarus, two Monster Hunter swordfighter costumes.

The continuous introduction of new characters and stages is just one of the reasons why "Super Smash Bros. 4" remains a favorite among fans. While other platforms and titles have had their share of downloadable content post-launch, "Super Smash Bros. 4" has been the first in the series that the company has supported for a long period of time.

"Super Smash Bros." was first released last 2014. While the Wii U version came a little later, the DLC featuring new characters, costumes and stages has allowed Nintendo to keep the game relevant to fans, Venture Beat reported.

There's also the upcoming Nintendo NX console to consider. Since the "Super Smash Bros. 4" was released on the Wii U, it will not be a surprise to find it in Nintendo's latest console as well. This can easily refresh a fan base and even grow it further in the future.
