Marvel's upcoming television series "Jessica Jones" is set to be darker.
According to Movie Pilot, the forthcoming Netflix series is based on "Alias," which presents a dark tone that is in contrary to typical Marvel films and television series, which showcase a light tone. The publication added that this is evidenced by the initial teaser trailers Netflix released in the past few months.
After being mentally manipulated by the Purple Man, Jones was attacked by the Avengers, leaving her in a coma. According to io9, Jones had been devastated and dismayed with the superhero realm, which had led her to leave her identity as Jewel and become the principal investigator fans have met at the beginning of "Alias."
While Marvel makes family friendly films, such as "Ant-Man," what works for one superhero does not work for another, as per Movie Pilot. Since Jones is a woman who continues to move on after she had been under mental torture under the Purple Man, Netflix's upcoming "Jessica Jones" is more likely to have a dark tone.
Making her debut in Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos' "Alias" comics in Nov. 2001, Jones worked in New York solving cases. While Jones is not Marvel's most famous superhero, she is known as the Marvel's known superhero-turned-parttime detective.
"Jessica Jones" stars Carrie-Anne Moss as Harper, Rachael Taylor as Trish "Patsy" Walker, David Tennant as Kilgrave, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Krysten Ritter as Jones.
Directed by S.J. Clarkson, "Jessica Jones" Episode 1, entitled "AKA Ladies Night" is slated to premiere on Netflix on Nov. 20.
