Lumo, a wearables company, has launched its Run running shorts whose sensors will help runners to use proper form in order to avoid injuries while sprinting down a track, jogging around the block or competing in a marathon. The smart clothing for fitness enthusiasts includes a plastic gadget in the waistband that monitors the user's biometrics such as stride length. Unlike standard running apps for iOS or Android, Lumo Run tracks the hips' and pelvis' movement, rather than just pace, distance and heart rate.
The waistband contains a gyroscope and accelerometer that are built into a tiny sensor.
Both the shorts and sensor can be washed. In addition, the sensor-battery can be removed for charging.
The wearables' mobile app sends the sensors' statistics collected from the pelvis and hips to the user's smartphone, according to CNET. That includes bounce and braking.
Lumo Run's companion app also gives real-time audio coaching advice. That includes how to improve jogging form, and avoid pulling or twisting a muscle.
Just in time for the holiday shopping season, the company is offering some major pre-order discounts. The men's version is now just $99. Meanwhile, the women's capri (three-quarter) pants version has a $119 price point for a limited time, according to Engadget.
The wearables company has already released the Lumo Lift. It is a posture wearable that detects the upper torso's and spine's movement and position.
Lumo Run is scheduled to ship in March 2016. Its $150 price tag is drastically lower than the $1,000 Myontec MBody fitness shorts.
