Sony's PlayStation 4 turned out successful and now there are already rumors in the air that the company is developing PlayStation 5 (PS5). Latest rumors suggest that the next-gen PS5 will scrap the hard disk and turn out an entirely streaming device.

Sony has already begun working on the upcoming PS5 after posting a job position on its official website soliciting for a developer to work on the next-gen console, according to Attack of the Fan Boy.

In the job post, Sony said, "We have an exciting opportunity at Sony Computer Entertainment of America (PlayStation). We seek a senior game programmer to assist us in developing a game used for R&D purposes related to our next generation gaming system. For someone passionate about gaming this is a very rare opportunity. After reviewing the below job profile, if this is you, please apply!"

However, fans will not lay their hands on PS5 until 2020, which implies that those planning to purchase the current PlayStation 4 console still have a chance to use it for five more years.

In a different report, PS Magazine Editor Ben Wilson informed Tech Radar that there is likelihood that the specs for the next-gen PS5 are not predictable. With the increasing growth of downloadable games, it is possible that the upcoming PlayStation 5 will be a streaming service.

Wilson said, "Steam on PC has taught us that disc drives are becoming less and less necessary, but I can't see them being phased out completely for a while yet. People love their boxed products, and 'experts' have been predicting the 'imminent' demise of the CD for more than 20 years."

The editor added that there will always be people who prefer special editions and good packaging to invisible downloads, and they are the same people who will ensure disc drives continue within gaming in some way.

However, Emmett Shear, the executive at Twitch-a streaming service, there might be no PS5 or Xbox Two in the near future because of the short shelf life of the current consoles.
