Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently said that he is planning to share his baby's early days in virtual reality.
The 31-year-old billionaire and co-founder of Facebook revealed his plans at the Vanity Fair Summit on Oct. 7. According to Recode, Zuckerberg said, "My wife and I are having a baby sometime soon. I'm really looking forward to being able to capture not just a photo but to really capture the experience."
Zuckerberg did not provide specifics about how he plans to share his baby's first steps. Many assume that he wants his parents to experience their grandchild's early days through a virtual reality device designed by Facebook. Some say they can also use their smartphones, just like Google Cardboard.
Zuckerberg acquired virtual reality startup Oculus VR in April 2014. The acquisition costs $2 billion comprised of $400 million in cash and 23.1 million common stock shares of Facebook.
During the Vanity Fair Summit, Zuckerberg was accompanied by Oculus chief scientist Michael Abrash. The scientist was hired from competing virtual reality company Valve following the acquisition of Oculus VR.
At the fair, Zuckerberg highlighted that virtual reality is the next major computing platform. Zuckerberg and Abrash presented a clip taken from the movie "The Matrix" in order to help illustrate their point.
As for the debate regarding virtual reality and augmented reality, Zuckerberg said that Facebook is most likely to take the road towards building virtual reality devices. Abrash added that optical difficulties still spell huge hurdle on the development of augmented reality devices, according to PC Mag.
Facebook and Oculus VR is scheduled to release their first virtual reality headset called Oculus Rift in March 2016.
