The Samsung Tomorrow blog announced on Wednesday the upcoming Z3 smartphone expected to sell in India for $130, or Rs 8,490, later in October.

Among the specs of the upcoming phone are a 5-inch Super AMOLED screen, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB memory, 8GB built-in storage and microSD slot which would accept storage cards of up to 128GB. It sports an 8-megapixel back shooter with LED flash and 5-megapixel front-facing camera, powered by a 2,700mAh battery.

Samsung had used Tizen on the Samsung Z1 smartphone and Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch that enjoyed good sales in India, which encouraged the tech giant to use again Tizen for the Z3.

J.K. Shin, CEO and head of IT and mobile business of Samsung, explaining its use of the Linux OS, says, "We developed the Samsung Z3 to provide the features that would help consumers capitalize on the growing Tizen ecosystem and make the most out of their personal mobile experience."

Asim Warsi, vice president for marketing of Samsung India, points out, "Tizen offers simpler and nimbler user experience. With Tizen and Z3, we see an opportunity to foster the feature phone segment and help users get most things done of their phones," quotes Indianexpress.

The roots of Tizen is in the MeeGo OS, backed by Nokia, according to eWEEk. Before Nokia shifted to Windows as a result of its purchase by Microsoft, the Swedish phone firm worked with Intel on MeeGo. Depending on market conditions, Samsung said it would use Tizen more on its gadgets.
